It takes great people to build a great group, MMCI is no exception. Our President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretaries, a Coordinator/Record Keeper, and three working committee members keep the wheels turning and our vision on track. But it's the heart and soul of every member who truly brings MMCI to life.

Behind the scenes of wildlife care are quiet heroes—our carers—who give so much of themselves to support the lost, the injured, and the vulnerable. Whether it’s bottle-feeding a joey at dawn or tending to a frightened, recovering animal late into the night, their love, time, and energy make all the difference.

Without our members, we simply wouldn’t exist. Thank you for showing up with compassion, for giving your time and your homes, for sewing pouches, mixing milk, building pens, and most importantly—for being there. You’ve helped the injured heal, given the displaced shelter, and offered the young a second chance at life.

Meet Our Mob

  • Macropod Carer: A Lifelong Passion for Kangaroos

My journey with kangaroos began when I was just three years old and had my first encounter with a grey kangaroo. Since then, I have developed a lifelong love for these incredible creatures. In the 1990s, I became involved in the rescue and care of kangaroos in Northern Territory. After taking a break for some years, I returned to this passion in 2016, focusing primarily on the care of red kangaroos.

As a registered nurse, I have spent my career caring for people, and I find that I can translate this care, compassion, and clinical intuition to the rescue and rehabilitation of macropods. These iconic Australian creatures hold a deep place in my heart.

I am privileged to serve as the president of MMCI. With my leadership skills and creative mind, my mission is to build on our past efforts and ensure that this group thrives for generations to come in the care and protection of macropods.

  • Wildlife Carer and Advocate

I have dedicated the past seven years to being a wildlife carer, actively involved in my local community with rescue work and snake relocations. My primary focus has been caring for and rehabilitating macropods, though I have had experiences with a wide variety of wildlife. I proudly serve on the Board of Directors for Carnaby's Crusaders, an organisation dedicated to the conservation of Carnaby's Black-Cockatoos. My journey as a wildlife carer is one of continuous learning, and I am delighted to be assisting the MMCI leadership team in their efforts.

  • Passionate Macropod Carer & Wildlife Advocate

In 2001, my partner found a tiny joey in a deceased kangaroo's pouch and called to ask if I knew how to care for it. When I said 'no,' he responded, “You better learn fast because I’m bringing one home!” And so, our love for macropods began with our first Euro joey, Roger. Since then, we've cared for numerous Western Greys, Reds, and cheeky Euros, and I've cherished every single one.

As one of the founding members of MMCI, I've completed formal training in rescuing and rehabilitating wildlife. I'm incredibly passionate about understanding more about kangaroos and sharing this knowledge with other carers and the public. It's crucial that a rescued joey is quickly placed in the hands of an experienced carer to give them the best chance of survival. For me, the hardest part of being a carer is dealing with loss, but each new joey helps heal the heartbreak and reminds us why we do this work.

  • Wildlife Carer and Advocate

A long history of working intensively with vulnerable and at-risk individuals brought me to a crossroads in my life. I needed to find a way to heal the part of myself that working with traumatised humans inevitably erodes. Together with my partner, we decided to become wildlife carers. For approximately six years, I volunteered with a local organisation, rescuing and rehabilitating various Australian wildlife species and serving on the organisation committee. Among all the species, one won my heart—macropods.

Since then, I have joined MMCI, where I continue to build on specialised macropod knowledge and rehabilitation practices. At MMCI, I have been able to amalgamate key professional skills, passion, and heart, ultimately finding my true connection to Country.

  • A Dedicated Journey in Kangaroo Conservation

As one of the founding members of MMCI, I have served in various roles, including President and Coordinator, and I now hold the Treasurer position. My long history of caring for kangaroos began in the late 1980s in Leonora, WA. Over the past 40 years, I have seen many changes in kangaroo management and new legislations.

Despite these changes, my passion for ensuring that kangaroos have the right to a better life remains unwavering. As an iconic Australian animal, they deserve the best possible care. With my background in business, I understand the financial needs of a volunteer organisation like MMCI. I bring a wealth of skills in managing finances, finding release sites, and providing education and support to other group members.

I am committed to the ongoing growth and impact of MMCI, ensuring we continue to make a difference in the lives of these incredible animals.

  •  A Devoted Wildlife Conservationist

I've always had a passion for wildlife, a love that started in my childhood in the UK and grew when I moved to Australia. In 2014, I completed a Basic Course in Wildlife Rehabilitation with the Department of Parks and Wildlife, after hearing about it on the radio.

I joined Midwest Marsupials Carers and have since dedicated my time to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing red kangaroos. My main area of caring are the pinkies and joeys up to 7 kilograms. Every successful release underscores the importance of wildlife conservation and the impact of compassionate care.
